Dr. Schwabe's research uses both theoretical and applied economic analyses to investigate issues related to the interaction between agriculture and the environment, environmental and natural resource valuation, environmental regulations, and land use in developing countries. His research is intended to be relevant to policy; examples include: (i) evaluating alternative policies for regulating non-point source pollution in the Neuse River Basin (North Carolina), (ii) evaluating the impacts of various wildlife management policies in Ohio, (iii) investigating the value of fisheries stocking programs for both consumptive and non-consumptive fishing in North Carolina, (iv) evaluating the impact on agricultural productivity of various environmental quality measures intended to improve sustainability, and (v) investigating the impact of environmental quality, governmental subsidy programs, and the market on labor allocation and land use on the well-being of forest-fringe communities in Malaysia. Dr. Schwabe's papers have appeared in wide range of peer-reviewed technical publications, including the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Environmental and Resource Economics, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Resource and Energy Economics, Economic Letters, Natural Resource Modeling, Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Social Indicators Research, and the Wildlife Society Bulletin. Dr. Schwabe is the recipient of the Kenneth R. Kellar Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research (1996), Outstanding Journal Article Award 2002 (Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics), and the Editor's Citation for Excellence in Manuscript Review 2002 (Journal of Environmental Quality).
